Light Tape® takes off on BAE Systems stand at Farnborough 2010

When BAE Systems wanted a spectacular floor lighting effect at this year’s Farnborough International Air Show Rapier Group chose Light Tape® to fit the bill.

Once again Light Tape® has proved to be a hit when used at the recent Farnborough Air Show on the floor and walls of the BAE Systems pavilion.  The simple, geometric design created using Light Tape® ran from a central, interactive, touch screen console in all directions throughout the main exhibition pavilion to the various displays of defense equipment, and as part of the lighting effects in the entrance to the registration area. For further information go to: www.lighttape.co.uk

The overall effect provided not only logical linking of the various exhibits, this could have been done using a white self adhesive tape on the floor, but by using Light Tape® as the directional indicator the resulting effect added a whole new dimension to the overall exhibit.

The floor, which is usually seen as just something you walk on, came alive and became as much a part of the overall design of the room as the accompanying pictured canvases used to tell the story of the varying uses for the exhibited products being promoted by BAE Systems.

2” lit width, Media White Light Tape® was first fitted in place using 3M double sided adhesive tape, which was then covered with 5” wide Light Tape®  Floor Shield™, a product specifically designed to protect the lighting product from foot traffic medium term.

The Light Tape® looked totally in keeping with the heady mix of hi tech equipment being displayed and its effectiveness i.e. brightness and visual appeal, stood up to the other forms of lighting effects that were used to spotlight the exhibits, showing yet another use of a product that offers intrinsic practicality combined with aesthetically pleasing results.

The display at the BAE Systems pavilion at Farnborough’s annual air show ran for a week in July with quit literally thousands of people in attendance, passing through and walking over the Light Tape® whilst viewing the very latest in defense vehicles and equipment on display, proving that Light Tape® which is as thin as a business card in combination with Floor Shield™, can stand up to the rigors of an extremely busy exhibition and still look superb as the accompanying pictures show.  The BAE Systems stand at Farnborough was designed and built by Rapier Group in Ware, Hertfordshire.

LumaGrip™ Lights the way in Boujis exclusive London Club

The exclusive South Kensington night club, Boujis has put the safety of its A-list clientele first and gained a beautiful, softly illuminated stairway by installing LumaGrip™ illuminated stair nosing on the staircase leading down from the foyer to the main night club area.

The low, seductive, ambient lighting that characterises and sets the Boujis sexy and intimate atmosphere, great music and friendly bar staff certainly attracts a wealth of high profile guests to the extremely popular London night spot. However, low light levels posed a problem on the main stairway leading down to the night club itself and that was where LumaGrip™™ came in to play.

Illuminated stair nosing’s have been available for many years using LEDs but they have always been bulky, complicated, high maintenance and expensive. LumaGrip™ is set to change this with a range of illuminated inserts that replace existing infill in standard Aluminium and PVC nosing’s.

LumaGrip™, illuminated stair nosing insert, ticks all the boxes by providing a safety feature that is  anti –slip and can be supplied in a variety of colours, making it easy to colour co ordinate or contrast  creating an ideal  solution that will enhance  any stair area.

Compared to standard illuminated nosing’s LumaGrip™ comes with the added benefits of having a good anti-slip rating and a glare free illumination.  Also, standard illuminated nosing has, due to the bulb size, been limited to the front of the nosing on the face of the riser, which means they can be seen clearly only when going up the stairs.

The light source has to be bright enough to illuminate the lower tread and the resulting glare can prove visually distracting.  LumaGrip™ however is fitted in to the tread of the stair and so can be seen clearly from both the top and bottom without glare, providing easy to see illuminated edges,  complying with Health and Safety regulations

LumaGrip™ incorporates the Light Tape® electroluminescent lighting product into its design which also makes the lighting system extremely economical to run.  LumaGrip™ illuminated inserts have been developed to fit into any standard 50mm x 4mm Aluminium or PVC Plastic profiles. It is available in a width of 50mm by 4mm deep and up to 5m in length, incorporating either 6mm or 12mm Light Tape® in a variety of Colours. All connections are embedded in resin making the product safe and easy to clean.

LumaGrip™ has been developed to fit into standard Aluminum profiles, timber stairs and decking as well as uneven floors (edges of dance floors etc) safer and more visible with the benefit of light, which also has the advantage of looking attractive and adding a splash of truly visible colour and interest to any bar or club.  This is one safety essential that really looks good too.

In the interest of safety, it makes sense to ensure that steps and varying floor level changes are as visually obvious as possible.

Light Tape®

Light Tape® uses less than one twentieth of the power and is half the price of Neon and Cold Cathode display lighting, it is flexible, easier to install and maintain, reduces light pollution, produces no waste heat or infrared light, is fully recyclable, uses No Gas, No Glass and No Mercury.

Light Tape® is the longest and brightest electroluminescent lamp in the world. It can be supplied in a range of colours and widths, in lengths up to 100m. Driven by specially devised power supplies, it can be used in flashing or steady state modes in indoor or outdoor applications. The design is safe with no mercury, no glass to break or gas to escape and it’s highly energy efficient too. In application, it is easy to install, requiring virtually no maintenance compared to alternative lighting technologies.

Light Tape® is being used in both the Korean and Brazilian Subway systems as Emergency Egress Escape lighting it is also being used around the world in Safety Garments and is presently on test illuminating level crossing barriers.

“Light Tape® was found to be more visible in smoke than LEDS after a smoke test performed by the San Paolo Fire Department. The Fire Commission found Light Tape® to be clearly visible and provided enough illumination to navigate in emergencies. Brazilian Subway, San Paolo”

A NASA study for the Air Force on Electroluminescent Lighting  showed the technology was easily visible from distances over five miles away. Notably Light Tape®  light penetrates fog, smoke, snow, haze and other normally poor visibility conditions.
